A large-scale, North American software upgrade for a leading manufacturer
The Problem
Molex Inc., the world’s second-largest manufacturer of electronic, electrical and fiber optic interconnection products and systems, sought to execute a massive OS upgrade. The company hoped to upgrade more than 3,000 PCs across North America to Windows 2000. The software and operating systems varied from machine to machine. For the project to be successful, Molex needed a flexible business partner that could adjust to varying schedules, one that could respond quickly and accomplish this large-scale upgrade without interrupting the business.
The Crosspoint Technologies solution
Crosspoint Technologies assisted Molex by conducting an analysis of work flow processes, developing a project plan, and providing a knowledgeable team of consultants to execute the solution. A nine-month timeline was devised to ensure that business would not be interrupted during the upgrade.
How it works
Crosspoint Technologies completed this project by designing and implementing an upgrade plan specific to the needs of Molex. First, Crosspoint Technologies performed a complete inventory audit, capturing the make, model, location and other details for each PC to be upgraded. After eliminating the machines that were not hardware compatible, Crosspoint Technologies made recommendations to purchase new hardware for any incompatible machines. For all other PCs, Crosspoint Technologies created a process that requires less than two hours to generate ghost images of each PC; they also automated a process to conserve resources while copying data back to the machines following the upgrade.
The return
Molex received a highly competitive bid from Crosspoint Technologies for this project. Accurate planning and reliable experts ensured that the bid was accurate. Crosspoint Technologies delivered the flexibility that Molex needed; consultants worked around the schedules of end-users, and business interruptions were few and minor. While changes happened to the project frequently, Crosspoint Technologies stayed focused, and the project was never derailed. What truly impressed this client most, though, were the intangibles that each Crosspoint Technologies expert brought to the table.
The proof
“Crosspoint Technologies consultants are knowledgeable and dedicated. Through each step of the project, they demonstrated the utmost professionalism, particularly when dealing with end users. Most importantly, the job was completed on-time and under-budget.”
